Hot water bottle(s) - confused2 - Dec 20, 2018

Walking past a shop the other day I noticed a display full of furry hot water bottles. What they had left were the cat bottles and dog bottles - I guess all the rat bottles had already sold out. At the back was a pure white hwb with (I found later) pom-poms.

When we were young we both had old, smelly hwbs that tended to leak in the night. As the years pass you build up a tolerance to that sort of thing.

So I bought the pure white hwb.

On its first night home I filled it and winded it and put in the bed. Fearing a hysterical reaction from Mrs C2 I warned her that there was a warm furry friend in the bed. Once reassured it didn't have whiskers and wasn't going to bite she went to bed.

Later it was thrust onto my side of the bed which seems to be part generous sharing and part petulant "I've had enough of that thing for one night."

One hot water bottle between two seems to be enough.

Satisfaction score: 7/10

Where have I heard that before?  Angel

Probably an invader with the nearest character to a HWB would be hubby's heat pack, used for back pain. The kind filled with sodium-acetate in a supersaturated state. That "boil it on the stove and later watch the liquid turn to crystals upon bending the metal tab, as it releases heat" thing. I suppose it could have a roving menace capacity if it squirmed out from beneath the target area. But he gets to be all alone with it, anyway, when thrashing about through the night over the width of the bed with a rare dorsal affliction.

Two updates.
In the darkest hour of the night I heard a rat jump off the bed. Fortunately Mrs C2 didn't wake up. If she'd heard it and done the "What was that?" given the hour and my inability to think of any alternative I'd probably have gone with the rat story - the consequences would not have been good. In the cold light of morning I found hwb had bailed out at some point and was the most likely cause.

I went out with hwb. Under my shirt. Also under two jumpers and a fleece thing which are all pretty much stuck together by this stage in the winter. Heartwarming. I had planned to go shopping but noticed hwb went 'bluggle' with every step. My attempts to cut down or eliminate the 'bluggle' caused hwb to fold over and become unmanageable even with two hands. Having no particular desire to hatch or give birth to a fluffy white hwb in the local supermarket I abandoned the plan and went home. Mrs C2 suggests some sort of sling. I see a possible trend here.

Why don't you just fill a sock with some rice and put it in the microwave?

This is among the many things which I haven't tried. I don't have any rice to try this with - rice is one of the things that goes into the cupboard and about 15 years later we throw it away cos we're not brave enough to try it after that length of time. If you know it works I'll get some rice.

Better coat or thermal underwear out of the question?

I have decided to plough my own furrow. If Edison had just gone out and bought more candles - where would we be now? I am already working on the sports harness - greater support and virtually silent.
