Elon Musk's First Boring Tunnel to Open for Public Inspection in LA Dec 10 - Yazata - Nov 5, 2018

It's a two-mile long proof-of-concept project near the SpaceX rocket plant. Apparently they will be throwing some kind of Boring party open to the public who are promised free rides.

The plan reportedly is to carry passengers (and eventually cars) on vehicles called "skates" that can travel down tracks in the tunnels at 150 mph. (Sounds Boring.) They are using the first tunnel (which doesn't really go anywhere) to test the skate vehicles and the concept.

Elon says it's very one-dimensional.

Probably already mildly retro in infrastructure fashion circles, but at least somebody is bucking the snoozingly belated American response to Asia's [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jetsons]Jetson-like[/url,] technological engineering and architectural feats. (Maybe toss Dubai in there, too, as a cosmetic honorary mention). The USSR demonstrated long ago that a world-power can look like the Flintstones in everyday life and still be a world-power. But a country shouldn't really flirt so extremely with a casual T-shirts & patched-jeans attire approach in the course of sitting on its laurels.
