EXCERPT: Smart speakers are already in about a third of US homes, an Adobe study found. The firm believes that could increase to about half of households by year's end. [...] Approximately 45 percent of consumers who already own a smart speaker said they plan to buy another one for themselves, while 23 percent plan to by one for themselves and 9 percent are planning on buying one for someone else. That's enough to push ownership of smart speakers to close to 48 percent by the end of the year, the firm said. Driving the surge is increased adoption of digital assistants, as people become more and more comfortable talking to their voice-activated devices. [...] The study found that smart speaker owners are also three times more likely to talk to voice assistants on phones, four times more likely on laptops, six times more likely in cars and 13 times more likely on wearables. This indicates that they're more comfortable talking to voice assistants in public than people who don't own a smart speaker....
