Theory proposed in the Vedas - Ostronomos - Sep 7, 2018

A theory proposed in the mystical writings of the Vedas is that distance, difference and detachment are necessary for differentiation. But it is ultimately useless as it denies human needs. Anyone who lives according to such a theory would ultimately fail for they would essentially be living a lie. I think a more realistic approach to the Vedas would be to apply the same general principle to our social lives and detach ourselves from society like a hermit. That way, we can pride ourselves on our independence and say that we have freed ourselves from the bonds and converted to asceticism. But even then, denying oneself pleasure is a grave injustice and can do damage to our psyches. Buddhist adherence to moderation is a more realistic goal of achieving this detachment. The ability to withhold certain desires and deprive oneself of need.
