"Each new report of clerical abuse at any level creates doubt in the minds of many that we are effectively addressing this catastrophe in the Church," Cardinal Sean O'Malley, the archbishop of Boston, warned last month. His statement came in the aftermath of what the Washington Archdiocese called a "credible and substantiated" allegation leveled against Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington. O'Malley cautioned that a failure to take action in such cases "will threaten and endanger the already weakened moral authority of the Church." History, law and doctrine all contribute to the continuing failure of Catholic authorities to recognize and respond more effectively to sexual abuse scandals.... Are either a surprise? RE: Religio-cultural child sex abuse & exploitation dramas in UK & US communities - Zinjanthropos - Aug 16, 2018 Why can't they name the others charged in Huddersfield? Family members related to victims maybe? Sam Harris or another "regressive left" projector might consider it surprising that they ever publicly released the names of any, should they deem the UK to be particularly protective of fundamentalist Islamic subcultures. The media is certainly portrayed (either rightfully or wrongfully) of taking forever to be non-obscure and non-evasive about such (but not without a variety of reasons, of course). Whereas in contrast a Catholic priest or Jesus-cult weirdo is claimed to be shouted about immediately from the mountaintop (in the US). ~ RE: Religio-cultural child sex abuse & exploitation dramas in UK & US communities - Zinjanthropos - Aug 16, 2018 (Aug 16, 2018 02:51 PM)C C Wrote:(Aug 16, 2018 11:08 AM)Zinjanthropos Wrote: Why can't they name the others charged in Huddersfield? Then again the missing names for the men may be Catholic priests or even Muslim clergy. I feel the brotherhood of male church officials can all be painted with same brush but perhaps naming an imam or two as an alleged perp might set off some fireworks. RE: Religio-cultural child sex abuse & exploitation dramas in UK & US communities - Syne - Aug 16, 2018 Both Catholicism and Islam share the fact that neither has had a reformation. The one intended for the Catholic church (Ninety-five theses) just gave rise to Protestantism...with the papists remaining largely untouched.
