Michael Hedges' *Ritual Dance*: various interpretations - C C - Apr 15, 2018 Michael Hedges considered himself to be a composer who just happened to predominately play on the guitar. But the ensemble of techniques and styles he brought together in his playing influenced a generation of guitarists that arose during his life and came after his death in 1997. I even recollect a science fiction novel published back in the early '90s that featured a character who was playing Hedges' works centuries later on another planet. Will Ackerman coincidentally introduced him as "The guitarist from another planet" on an acoustic guitar special that PBS aired circa 1985. As an example of his continuing legacy, "Drifting" is a piece that is shot through with Hedge's influence (it was originally composed and played by Andy McKee): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgEQuZnZo4k Hedges used the tuning of DADGCC for "Ritual Dance". Here Julián Stur adds some tweaks to the old master's version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqRi9iS4vxg Sungha Jung demonstrates that small hands are no obstacle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAfJHBWBPJ4 Mental note to self: Actually watch that "August Rush" movie someday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqEUDwny0-M Walter Muto may be doing a tutorial or something here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAzDghtorT0 Finally, I may as well forget there being a good quality video of Hedges being available: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPB-ShG_UWY Maybe slightly better quality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kyu-EN3DCc - - - |
