I Know What I'm Doing, I'm a Scientist! - Yazata - Apr 4, 2018

When L. Ron Hubbard (of Scientology fame) got out of the Navy after World War II, he moved into an old Victorian house in Pasadena California occupied by a group of Cal Tech rocket scientists. The house was owned by one of the scientists named Jack Parsons. This guy was even stranger than Hubbard.

An older Amazon blurb for the book 'Sex and Rockets' summed it up:

https://www.amazon.com/Sex-Rockets-Occult-World-Parsons/dp/0922915970

"Jack Parsons was a brilliant scientist whose innovations in solid rocket fuel were responsible for Allied air victories in WWII as well as early advances in space flight. A cofounder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, he was honored by NASA for his accomplishments when they named a moon crater after him. But outside the laboratory, Parsons immersed himself in a shadowy world unknown to his professional colleagues -- a world where Parsons practiced occult rituals with his mentor, Aleister Crowley, a self-professed Antichrist. When Parsons befriended L. Ron Hubbard, who later ran off with Parsons's money and his wife, his life became even more peculiar. Ultimately, his increasingly obsessive experiments -- he aimed to create a creature with magical powers -- sparked a chemical explosion that killed him."

Before that unfortunate event, Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard performed The Babalon Working, an attempt to conjure up an elemental succubus, and then to engage in sex magic in order to open a portal between dimensions in order to attract an Kali-like sex goddess named Babalon.

The theory is described in more detail here:

Don't think that you can understand it though, it's science.

Science fiction writer L.Sprague DeCamp tells of the Pasadena police being called to Parson's house because of all the naked women running around his front lawn. But Jack explained to the police that he knew precisely what he was doing because he was a scientist...

Is California great, or what??

When you saw all those crew-cut NASA guys in short sleeved white shirts and pocket protectors on TV, you never knew, did you?

Great Scott, the stereotypically exalted rocket scientist, no less. There are so many acronyms of organizations that he was affiliated with in those bios that they induce alphabet vertigo.

"In December 1945 Parsons began a series of rituals based on Enochian magic during which he masturbated onto magical tablets..."

Given that Ed Woods got a movie made about him, how is it that an eccentric technologist bursting with as many mad exploits as Jack Parsons has never gotten one yet? Or have I just somehow missed it over they years?

To bring about a freer future Parsons believed in liberalizing attitudes to sexual morality stating that, in his belief, the publication of the Kinsey report and development of the psychonautical sciences had as significant an influence on Western society as the creation of the atomic bomb and the development of nuclear physics.

Ah, so much is explained there. I knew Alfred Kinsey had to be an influential factor somehow.

First thing I thought was "any relation to Jim Parsons?" No, but his dad went by "Jack" too.

Huh, I think I read "Fear" decades ago. Interesting premise:
A guy goes about his day, not remembering that he had killed someone until the end.

Yep..always scanning the threads for homophobic ramifications..You're a pathetic shit..

No moron, because I don't prescribe to the fallacy of guilt by association. I love Jim Parsons on Big Bang Theory.
If anything, I would think a rocket scientist dad may have contributed to that role, in a positive way.

The way you constantly project and infer your own hate on others is pathetic.

They really need to make a movie about this guy's life. Maybe star Ryan Reynolds with his sex positive reputation.

Interesting little tidbit here. Yes...there's a ufo connection!

"Their final ritual took place in the Mojave Desert in late February 1946, during which Parsons abruptly decided that his undertaking was complete. On returning to the Parsonage he discovered that a woman named Marjorie Cameron—an unemployed illustrator and former Navy WAVE—had come to visit. Believing her to be the "elemental" woman and manifestation of Babalon that he had invoked, in early March Parsons began performing sex magic rituals with Cameron, who acted as his "Scarlet Woman", while Hubbard continued to participate as the amanuensis. Unlike the rest of the household, Cameron knew nothing at first of Parsons' magical intentions: "I didn't know anything about the O.T.O., I didn't know that they had invoked me, I didn't know anything, but the whole house knew it. Everybody was watching to see what was going on." Despite this ignorance and her skepticism about Parsons' magic, Cameron reported her sighting of a UFO to Parsons, who secretly recorded the sighting as a materialization of Babalon."---

Well, wadda ya know!

http://disinfo.com/2017/08/wow-cbs-is-going-to-make-a-jack-parsons-show/

“David Lowery directed one of the best-reviewed movies of the year with “A Ghost Story.” Now, he’s doing something about as different as you can get.

CBS All Access announced at the Television Critics Association press tour on Tuesday that their latest slate of original programming will include “Strange Angel,” a new show following the life of Jack Parsons.

The series, created by “Black Swan” writer Mark Heyman, will chart the life of Parsons, who helped to pioneer rocket engineering in America. As chronicled in George Pendle’s 2006 book, Parsons was “a mysterious and brilliant man in 1940s Los Angeles, who by day helps birth the entirely unknown discipline of American rocketry, and by night is a performer of sex magick rituals and a disciple to occultist Aleister Crowley,” per a CBS All Access release.

Lowery will direct and executive produce the series. While not a TV newbie (he directed an episode of Sundance’s “Rectify” and an installment of the National Geographic documentary series “Breakthrough”), this is the “A Ghost Story” director’s biggest foray in television yet."

A TV series would be better just from the standpoint of having plenty of time to explore / dwell on all that stuff rather than having to quickly breeze through it. (Just imagine the pathetically condensed messes that "Game of Thrones" or "Breaking Bad" would be if they had been movies.) Also, CBS Access would allow nudity and a full spectrum of profanity for the artistically dulled modern audience that needs events / details brutely spelled-out for them rather than inferred. Yet also without the gratuitous monotony of HBO's degree of such, the latter as if its viewers consist solely of adolescents that have to be continuously coddled with their own teen-speak and hormonal needs.
