Experimenters at Stanford have observed tiny diamond drops forming in exotic high-pressure conditions such as might exist 5,000 miles deep in Uranus (but not in mine).

The diamond rain on Uranus might be large diamond droplets. But they note that they won't be chemically pure and won't be cut like gems. It isn't clear what happens to the diamond rain after it falls. A layer of not-so-pure diamond surrounding the planet's metallic core?
Stuff likes this makes me realize that physical conditions out there in our solar system and on the even weirder exoplanets being discovered elsewhere might be hugely exotic and unexpected.
