EXCERPT: Many children with autism suffer from gastrointestinal problems, such as belly pain and constipation. And new research suggests that these issues may stem from a heightened response to stress. "When treating a patient with autism who has constipation and other lower gastrointestinal issues, physicians may give them a laxative to address these issues," said study author Dr. David Beversdorf. "Our findings suggest there may be a subset of patients for which there may be other contributing factors. More research is needed, but anxiety and stress reactivity may be an important factor when treating these patients," he added....

while Autism covers a vast range of issues. the potential for high responsiveness/allergic reaction to foods & chemicals which would also go with a probable different chemical composition would result in a different biological base line.

allergies to pesticide soaked gmo grains and phosphate/nitrate soaked dairy products along with leached chemicals from cooking and packaging would give all manner of issues.

simple highly allergic responses to things as common as salt would give rise to issues that degrade the bodys hydration level and destroy the digestive process resulting in conspitation and stomach pains.

being generaly highly emotively driven autism spectrum children may be getting high doses of comfort food from their parents which their parents then deny.
foods used to quite the children down that are high in salts or chemicals or saturating the child with carbs so the body releases endorphines(food addiction).

the list is quite extensive as you can see.
additionally(as i here parents protesting about my comment) starvation from emotional combativenes then followed by a single food item can illicit a massive bodily response to the certain food type. even if the trace chemicals in the preservatives or vitamins are not apparently high.
the fact that the fasting followed by a certain food illicitis a drug like effect combined with the cognitive behavioural theraputic process/habituation.
