Tone policing genetic fallacy - Syne - Dec 23, 2016 Carol deary, this is for you. Quote:Tone policing (or tone trolling or tone argument or tone fallacy) is an antidebate appeal based on genetic fallacy, which attempts to detract from the validity of a statement by attacking the tone rather than the message.- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tone_policing "Tone policing – a subtype of "ad hominem", focusing on the emotion behind the message rather than the message itself as a discrediting tactic." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies#Red_herring_fallacies This is a fallacy, trolling, and ad hominem. Keep that in mind. RE: Tone policing genetic fallacy - Leigha - Dec 24, 2016 I find that tone policing in general, is usually a tactic to shut down arguments, if the arguments are expressly going against the person who is tone policing. Not saying this is Carol's intent or anyone else's but it's just something I've noticed from time to time, even offline. RE: Tone policing genetic fallacy - Syne - Dec 24, 2016 Yeah, either that or just a way to avoid inconvenient arguments. |
