Cigar Box Guitars - Bowser - Aug 20, 2016 My first post. So, yeah, I make these things called cigar box guitars. They are incredibly easy to make and fun to play. https://youtu.be/NTt3iZNPc2c RE: Cigar Box Guitars - Secular Sanity - Aug 20, 2016 Hey there, Bowser. I'm glad you joined. Welcome! Those are pretty cool. Does that mean that you can play, as well? Do you happen to have any pictures of the ones you've created? Since I got into adapting clawhammer banjo style (or at least borrowing its rhythm), and admiring what Jake Shimabukuro can do with just a ukulele, I've been mildly longing for some kind of small, backpacker guitar with possibly fewer strings. Hobby-wise, I originally acquired a big, clunky dreadnought because I liked that muted, deep thump brand of alternating bass line that early popularizers of fingerpicking like Chet Atkins (etc) used to back-up their melodies on the treble strings. But after experimenting with other acoustic guitar styles over time, having all that lower sense of "space" ironically gets annoying for some things. Certainly I'm not the caliber of the guy in the video. I do have some pictures but not the time to post at the moment. My apologies RE: Cigar Box Guitars - macgyver1968 - Aug 20, 2016 Cool! Does it only have 3 strings? RE: Cigar Box Guitars - babe - Aug 20, 2016 (Aug 20, 2016 04:29 PM)Bowser Wrote: My first post. So, yeah, I make these things called cigar box guitars. Yes, but some people make them with more strings. The problem is, when you add more than 3 strings, you are required to add bracing, like a steel rod in the neck. But it can be done. Here's a video of Samantha Fish playing a 6 string CBG (actually, I think it's an oil can) at the Portland Blues Fsetival... |
