The weird ufo sightings of John Keel - Magical Realist - May 19, 2016

John Keel was one of those people who drew strange incidents to himself like a giant magnet. He was the journalist that investigated the Mothman sightings. His experiences ranged from poltergeist manifestations and men in black to amazing synchronicities and very strange ufo encounters. I thought the poor bloke might have been schizophrenic. But when you read his writings you see he was a very sane and intelligent man who often had eyewitnesses with him to confirm his experiences. Here's an account of John Keel sitting in the woods of W Virginia on successive nights with different people observing very unusual ufos and flashing morse code messages to them with his flashlight. I am not so interested in the moving stars as those could have been cesium flares. It's what happened afterwards that is jawdropping. This is valuable research contributing to our overall knowledge of this phenomenon:

Quote:Local farmers [...] told me that [...] seem so many of "those things" that [...] no longer paid any attention to them.

Both wild and domestic animals can be initially terrified by a familiar predator, but then gradually adapt to its presence if it happens to be a passive, tamed individual of that species. Apparently it works similarly with human curiosity: It dissipates if there's no foothold available for progress and no continued stimulation for attributing importance to something. Even the extraordinary, if anomalous enough and not too intruding, becomes taken for granted and classed as ignorable by average folk and eggheads alike.
