Two opposite interpretations of one state of cosmicity - Magical Realist - Oct 29, 2026

Both science and mysticism fueled by a common subjective state of what I call cosmicity. Like how Sagan and Tyson constantly evoke wonderment and awe in their descriptions of the universe---a universe conceived to be so beyond us and our grasp of it that it makes us fleeting and insignificant by comparison. But an objectified and uninvolving cosmos, not a subjectively phenomenal one. One that is inherently closed off to us on all sides.

With mysticism we get a diametrically opposite view of cosmicity--one that does not reduce us to isolated outliers but that elevates us into a state of absolute importance. Two perspectives on one state of being. Like how the center point of a circle is essentially nothing at all and yet at the same time the fixed and absolute reference point for the immense encirclement of the circumference. They are the inverted mirrorings of two states of absolute outsideness and absolute insideness.
