Inside the UK Greens' debate over landmark anti-Zionism motion

INTRO: UK Green Party members are debating the details of the "Zionism is racism" motion that will be put to a vote on Sunday at their annual conference, with its backers optimistic that the party will formally adopt an anti-Zionist position.

The motion, endorsed by leading advocates of the Palestinian cause, seeks to declare the party opposed to Zionism, which it defines as a racist, settler-colonial ideology.

It defines Zionism as a political ideology seeking the creation and continuation of an ethnonationalist Jewish state in historic Palestine through the exclusion or domination of its non-Jewish population, and says its material consequences have included the dehumanisation, displacement, dispossession and disenfranchisement of Palestinians.

The motion seeks to make opposition to Zionism an explicit Green Party position while affirming Palestinian self-determination and liberation. (MORE - detials)

SALTY AI: Conversely, would this Islamo-left effort also unintentionally clarify or justify the status of New Antisemitism (anti-Zionism) as being a legit, crypto-bigotry movement itself, or more than just Israeli weaponization of antisemitism? This remains to be seen.

Again, no word of the ethnonationalist surrounding Arab/Muslim nations, which are not democratic nor allow non-Arab/Muslims to hold positions of power... unlike Israel. Anti-Zionism is advocating for the ethnic cleansing of Israel.

When antisemites openly tell you who they are, believe them.

Is not all ethno-centric nationalism also racist at some level? Manifest Destiny and the filthy savages it sought to eliminate. The Third Reich and the mongrel races it tried to eliminate. European colonialism and the slave trade. Caucasian nations and anti-immigrant bigotry. It is only a small step from believing you are the destined and chosen people on earth to believing all outsiders are hoards of abominable in-the-way subhumans.

"Palestine is one hundred percent derived from the Hebrew name for the philistines. There is no evidence of a written language left by the philistines and the only name that they go by was the name given to them by the Hebrews at the time. The evolution of the word went something like this:

פלש—פלישתים—ארץ פלשת—סוריה פלסטינה/פלשתינה—פלסטין/פלשתין

PaLaSh—plishtim—the land of paleset—Syria Palestina (the name given to the land of Israel and Judea as a punishment by the Roman)—- Palestine

PaLaSh is the Hebrew root word for invade meaning we called the sea fairing invaders by their actual name, invaders."----Reddit

So just allergic to addressing Arab/Muslim ethnonationalism, which is much more strict than Israel, where Muslims and Arabs can be elected to political offices and serve in government.

Google (Gemini?)

Iran’s constitution explicitly guarantees the Jewish community a dedicated, reserved seat in the national parliament (Majlis), a position currently held by Homayoun Sameh (The Forward).
Constitutional and Political Framework
• Official Recognition: According to the Palestine Chronicle, Judaism is formally recognized as an official religious minority alongside Christianity and Zoroastrianism under Article 13 of the Iranian Constitution.
• Parliamentary Seat: The 290-seat Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) reserves one specific seat for the Jewish minority to voice community concerns, distinguishing state-sanctioned religious identity from political Zionism (Middle East Forum).
• Public Stance: Parliamentary representatives and community leaders frequently issue public statements aligning with state anti-Zionist policies and expressing solidarity with the Iranian government to ensure communal security (Jewish Virtual Library).
Community Realities and Context
• Demographics: An estimated 9,000 to 20,000 Jews remain in Iran—making it one of the largest Jewish populations in the Middle East outside Israel—concentrated primarily in Tehran, Shiraz, and Isfahan (The Forward, JNS).
• Public Perception: Users on Reddit have a consensus that anti-Semitism in Iran is largely governmental and ideological rather than pervasive among the general civilian populace, though community safety remains tightly conditioned on avoiding open support for Israel.

You think a single seat for second-class citizens, in a 290-seat Assembly, is comparable to 13 Arab members (9 being Muslim) currently serving in the 120-seat Israeli parliament (the Knesset)?
Aside from that one seat, there are zero Jews who serve in Iranian government. Whereas:

The Judiciary: Muslims serve as judges throughout the Israeli court system. Most notably, Khaled Kabub serves as a Supreme Court Justice, making him the first Muslim appointed to a permanent seat on Israel's highest court.
The Civil Service: Thousands of Muslim citizens work as government employees within state ministries, public health agencies, and municipal governments.
Local Government: Dozens of Muslims serve as elected mayors and city council members, governing Arab-majority municipalities and cities across Israel.
