EXCERPTS: A floating island loaded with green, healthy-looking trees has been spotted drifting around Williston Lake in Canada, and we've never seen anything like it. Rocky Avery, a British Columbia local resident and boater, shared a video of the strange floating 'island' on social media.
Technically, it's more like a raft than an island, with trees and other plants growing on something seemingly buoyant, like driftwood. The reservoir is managed by BC Hydro, a power company that harnesses electricity from the dam.
Since it's 2026 and the internet is swamped in AI-generated videos, BC Hydro spokesperson Bob Gammer was rightly suspicious of the reports at first.

The US has its own island of peat, mud, roots and trees floating on Chippewa Lake in Wisconsin. Locals push it back in place with their pleasure craft. Right now as I look out my front window onto the lake I can see what we call a cattail island floating by. It’s been going back and forth for a few days now but pretty soon it will hit land or low water and stop. Happens every year, many times.

Interesting way of forestry in the future.
Grow floating islands of trees (Interlocking root systems likely caused by being on debris ontop of a rock surfaces leading to the roots not being able to go too deep). You can move them to lumbercamps or directly to mills and keep them away from wild fires by floating them around the lake.
