Brian Greene and Richard Dawkins Discuss God - Ostronomos - Aug 19, 2026

Brian Greene considers God to be part of a noble journey. Richard Dawkins responds by saying that God undermines the entire scientific community. There is no doubt a skepticism at play behind Dawkins' words. However he does not dismiss God outrightly.

God was a primitive concept used to explain unexplainable natural phenomena, like lightning, floods, earthquakes, rainbows, eclipses, and plagues. No trace of such a critter has ever turned up, no not in the skies nor in the depths of outer space. If you wanna believe in infinite possibility, magic, or cosmic consciousness, go right ahead. But don't call it God.

Another failed attempt at logic. God is the ultimate conclusion on truth. Your distaste for the word is clearly indicative of poor logic. I speak not as a theist but as a metaphysicist. You are clearly deluded if you reject the idea of God. This God I refer to is outside of time and space, that is what drives your passion fueled ignorance. I am not your average believer. I am 100% positive that a supernatural dimension containg an omnipotent deity exists. Your statement only serves to fuel the ignorance of your fellow atheists. I suggest you rethink your stance.

Next time you see your God, ask him why he keeps himself so well-hidden from the human race.

As you've been repeatedly told... free will.

RE: Brian Greene and Richard Dawkins Discuss God - Magical Realist - Aug 20, 2026

Pretending you don't exist doesn't grant freewill to anyone. All knowledge of what is the case only enables freewill. Hence knowing God exists would only further our freewill not diminish it.

In point of fact the very existence of an omnipotent being who controls everything itself violates freewill.

RE: Brian Greene and Richard Dawkins Discuss God - Syne - Aug 20, 2026

As you've been repeatedly told.... there is no room for doubt or faith if something obviously exists. Unless delusional, you cannot deny the existence of the chair you sit on.

And no one said it grants free will. That would be a strawman. Just because something happens for a reason does not mean that happening caused that reason.

There is no freewill if faith is required. Nobody can make rational choices without knowing the facts. If God's existence were revealed to be a brute fact, human choice would only be enabled in providing real choices instead of delusional ones based only on faith. OTOH pretending you don't exist only biases freewill towards non-existence, which is no longer a free choice. It is a deception that entirely abridges free choice.

RE: Brian Greene and Richard Dawkins Discuss God - Syne - Aug 21, 2026

Complete contradiction. Faith is the choice to believe, without sufficient evidence. Only free will can bridge that gap between insufficient evidence and belief. In this case, there are no contradictory facts (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, because that is an argument from ignorance) whereby a rational choice is definitively determined. The delusion is in denying the undeniable, not in believing the doubtful. Biasing is not coercion, which is the only way it would not be a free choice. Since many do believe, it obviously is a free choice.

Nope..a God concealing his existence from humans is precisely contradictory to the reality and equates to deception. And making a choice based on deception cannot be a free choice. God biases that choice by simulating his nonexistence, which removes free choice and traps humans in a delusion of him not existing. And there is no virtue in believing something without evidence. It is belief without justification and which therefore cannot qualify as knowledge.
