Timothee Chalamet sticks his foot in his mouth - Magical Realist - Mar 13, 2026

Timothee Chalamet sticks his foot in his mouth. He actually said at a town hall meeting with Matthew McConaughey that nobody is interested in ballet and opera anymore! And the world is reacting. I will admit I would never go see these types of performances. They're just not my cup of tea. But I think ole Timmy is grossly underestimating the numbers of those really into these two classic artforms! I hope this doesn't effect his chances of winning an Oscar this Sunday night. Or maybe I don't! Here he is basically lambasted by Nathan Lane on the View:

Wow...give the kid a break already! He just made a casual off-the-cuff remark during a conversation. Just like we all do. It's just that the media has to hype everything up for stars like him like its so damn terrible.

Generative AI might not be able to replace live ballet dancers, but Boston Robotics could already program their machines to perform those moves. Just need to design them to look more humanoid, like Margot Fonteyn and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Choreographers and composers are the biological elements that would still be indispensable in terms of creative originality, compared to the recycled material of AI. But ballet still relies heavily on the established classics. A goat-roper from Podunk probably didn't enter the theater to see a new, avant-garde work titled "Bourrée In Pink Fragility Space".
