Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Magical Realist - Dec 20, 2025 Hmm..makes a lot of sense to me. I might add that people who are easily disgusted often confuse what disgusts them with what is morally wrong. Which is horse hockey. There are certainly many people you would never want to imagine having sex, but it doesn't mean it is morally wrong for them to have sex. In short, what disgusts you is all about you, not about the person who disgusts you. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1876254989949867 RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - confused2 - Dec 20, 2025 “Give me the Child until he is 7 and I will show you the man”, so said Aristotle 300 BC. RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Syne - Dec 20, 2025 This guy is ignorant of psychology. Leftists don't "override" their disgust with more emotional intelligence. They simply do not value the moral foundation of purity/disgust at all, as they prioritize care/harm and fairness/injustice over the three others. Conservatives value all moral foundations equally. And this is based on large, cross-cultural studies. RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Magical Realist - Dec 21, 2025 As their unconditional adoration of Trump shows, rightwingers have no grasp on the crucial differences between morality and moralism, and between purity and puritanism. They are brainwashed sheep reciting the meaningless mottos of a bygone populist era. RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Syne - Dec 21, 2025 Conservative are not the ones who have promoted sterilizing and mutilating children for life. RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Magical Realist - Dec 21, 2025 The absence of one vice in a person does not entail the absence of any other vices. It's why so many conservative preachers and "holy" men end up being pedophiles. All that repressed darkness strikes out eventually in an all-the-more twisted and monstrous form. RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Syne - Dec 21, 2025 What, you mean the prevalence of perversion is about the same as the population as a whole, regardless of profession? It's not like there a huge vetting process for clergy... even though there probably should be for Catholic asexuals/celibates. RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Magical Realist - Dec 21, 2025 Quote:What, you mean the prevalence of perversion is about the same as the population as a whole, regardless of profession? Who said that? Like I said, the more evil you repress the more twisted and inevitable becomes the outlet. It's human psychology 101. And conservatives are all about repressing themselves.. Synchronistically this news story came on TV while I typed this: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/childrens-pastor-joe-campbell-arrested-child-sex-abuse-charges-rcna210316 RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Syne - Dec 21, 2025 So, anecdotal, without any actual stats comparing the population as a whole. Got it. RE: Why rightwingers are so triggered by gender nonconformity.. - Yazata - Dec 21, 2025 (Yesterday 07:32 AM)Magical Realist Wrote: Hmm..makes a lot of sense to me. I might add that people who are easily disgusted often confuse what disgusts them with what is morally wrong. Given that (in my opinion, others will disagree) there is no objective fact of the matter in ethical matters, separating feelings from facts is going to be problematic from the outset. So, if there is no real distinction, then the idea that they are being confused kind of collapses. Quote:Which is horse hockey. There are certainly many people you would never want to imagine having sex, but it doesn't mean it is morally wrong for them to have sex. In short, what disgusts you is all about you, not about the person who disgusts you. Couldn't that equally be said about racism or sexism or anything that we find morally repugnant? That the fact you find it morally repugnant is a fact about you, not about the state of affairs that you are judging and attaching a moral value to? As for me (and I'm a paradigmatic rightwinger) I'm not going to say that gender deviancy is morally wrong. I find much of it (the "trans" craziness for example) exceedingly weird. It has no sexual attraction for me. But I have no problem being friends with 'trans' people and I try not to insult or antagonize them needlessly. (The same kind of consideration I have for pretty much everyone.) I do dislike requiring me to use a person's 'pronouns' if they don't correspond to that person's biological sex. I reserve the freedom to make the choice what to call somebody myself. Of course, 'misgendering' a trans person might not be received well by that person, so I decide on a case-by-case basis what to call them, based mostly on how much I value the relationship. What bothers me isn't so much that somebody is pretending to be something they are not, what bothers me is that I'm being forced to play along with it, at risk of losing a job or (in Britain perhaps) even being jailed. I don't like male and female restrooms being unisexed. I don't like women's sports being eliminated. But what I really don't like are trans-ing children with life-changing drugs and/or surgical mutilation, often while keeping the whole thing secret from the child's parents. All because some gender-activist in the child's school wanted to do it. If an adult wants to go 'trans', then I think that's their right based on my libertarian principles. Even if I think that it's a terrible choice, kind of like tatooing your face. That said, I personally think that any adult that does these things to children should be charged with child-abuse and think that it should carry prison time. That also goes for parents who do it to their minor children. |
