UK to boost Ukraine's air defence with 5,000 missiles, says Keir Starmer (PM style) - C C - Oct 24, 2025 https://www.indiatoday.in/world/story/uk-to-boost-ukraines-air-defence-with-5000-missiles-says-uks-keir-starmer-2808109-2025-10-25 British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Friday announced military support for Ukraine and promised to provide it 5,000 lightweight missiles by accelerating a programme to produce those missiles in a bid to support Ukraine in its war against Russia and strengthening its air defence during the winter period. Starmer announced the military support at a press conference after meeting Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other world leaders in the “Coalition of the Willing” on Friday. Keir, Zelenskyy and other leaders assembled for the summit to deliberate on ways to provide Ukraine long range missiles that can strike deep inside Russia. According to reports, the British Prime Minister told the media that the leaders at the summit also discussed how to protect Ukraine’s power grid from Russian drone and missile attacks as winter approaches. "We are strengthening Ukraine's air defence to protect its civilians and its energy infrastructure. I announce today that we are accelerating our UK programme to provide Ukraine with more than 5,000 Lightweight Multirole Missiles," Starmer said. Starmer further said the “Coalition of the Willing” is determined to take further action aimed at removing Russian oil and gas from the global market by the end of the year. Speaking at the press conference, Zelenskyy, while expressing fear that Russia would aim to use the cold weather to pressure Ukraine, urged allies to disrupt Russia’s ability to fund its war by introducing sanctions against all Russian oil companies, its shadow fleet and oil terminals. Earlier last week, US President Donald Trump, in a bid to cripple Russia’s funding, imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest gas companies Rosneft and Lukoil, a move hailed by Starmer, who said that the United States has “acted decisively”, and French president Emmanuel Mancron, describing Trump’s decision as a “turning point”. Reacting to US sanctions on Russian oil majors, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow would never bow down to pressure from Washington or any other nation and warned that any strikes deep within Russian territory would be met with a "very serious and overwhelming" response. I notice the Kremlin this week staged nuclear forces readiness drills and rocket tests, to further rattle the nuke saber. Whether their old and poorly maintained warheads still work is a different question - but that's not something the West can afford to guess about. Ukraine tramped all over the implied line that he drew in the past with respect to inviting a nuclear response. Welcome back, Vat.
