I read about him more than anything else (encounter him that way), so I repeatedly forget how horribly tortured his voice is. Unlike the "brain worms" he got from global travel, who knows what caused the spasmodic dysphonia.

I think that brain worm is a xenomorphic parasite that has taken over his reasoning ability and turned him into an antivax zombie implant out to subvert all the research that might kill the parasite. It probably slithered into his green smoothie one morning when he wasn't looking. We are all doomed.
