RELEASE: Elon Musk has called for Nigel Farage to step down as leader of Reform UK, suggesting the party needs a new leader to move forward.

Musk made his comments after Farage had spent days praising him, calling the billionaire a “hero” and claiming he made the party “look cool.”

Musk, however, took to social media platform X, saying, “The Reform Party needs a new leader. Farage doesn’t have what it takes.” This surprising move came despite Musk being expected to donate millions to Reform UK to support the party in the upcoming general election.

The two men had previously met with Reform UK's treasurer, Nick Candy, at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago mansion to discuss the party’s future. However, just after Farage's praise, Musk seemingly changed his stance on the matter.

Farage, clearly taken aback, responded to Musk on X, saying: “Well, this is a surprise! Elon is a remarkable individual, but on this I am afraid I disagree. My view remains that Tommy Robinson is not right for Reform, and I never sell out my principles.

The rift between Musk and Farage seems to stem from Farage’s refusal to support Musk’s call for the release of jailed political activist Tommy Robinson. Robinson, serving an 18-month sentence for contempt of court, is not seen by Farage as a figure the party should focus on as it aims to win the next election.

Despite this disagreement, Farage continued to defend Musk’s comments about UK politicians, including Labour’s Jess Phillips and Sir Keir Starmer. Musk had suggested that Phillips “deserves to be in prison” and attacked Starmer over his record as Director of Public Prosecutions, claiming he failed to bring “rape gangs” to justice.

Regarding X, Farage defended Musk’s use of “tough terms” and praised him for creating a platform for free speech. “This man happens to be the richest man in the world, but equally, the fact that he’s bought Twitter now actually gives us a place where we can have proper open debate,” Farage said.

Critics, such as pollster Luke Tryl, argued that without Farage, Reform UK would struggle to gain traction in the election, adding that “Musk has no handle on UK politics.

Seems 'Free Speech' is turning into one of those 'be careful what you wish for' type things.

Sounds like a Brit.

Elon Musk's tweets reaching a billion people is exactly what I had in mind when I thought about freedom of speech.

And how's that problem?

Problem not. My point making.

I'm probably the biggest Elon supporter on this board.

But I do think that recently Elon has been behaving too aggressively, with insufficient thought beforehand. He's unneccessarily creating enemies among people who should be allies.

He did it first with his H1-B visa thing, calling critics of the visas "racists" and telling them to do contortionist sex acts on themselves. Then apparently somebody explained the reasons for the criticism of the H1-B program to Elon, and he quieted down agreeing the the program does need to be reformed.

Then Elon turns around and threatens to ruin his relationship with Nigel Farage, over what appears to me to be a rather minor disagreement.

It threatens to become disfunctional.

That said, I do agree with Elon's highlighting the organized rape gangs in Britain victimizing thousands of young girls for a generation, and both Labour and Conservative politicians' appalling decision to keep the whole thing hushed up all in the name of community relations. I agree with Elon that it's probably the biggest scandal in the last century of British history and I like seeing Whitehall's nose belatedly being rubbed in it.

I would of said it's a rather dark way of encouraging people to engage on his platform. Picking topics and people that stimulate "noise" when being talked about likely increases the number of people that want to muzzle in on the discussion and thus pay for the ability to do so (as well as prove advertising revenue)

If X is to be 'media' then 'it' (actually Elon) has to report impartially. So no 'relationships' and without 'relationships' there can be no 'rifts'.

You're conflating "media" and "social media". They are not the same, nor meant to be. Elon's personal X account is just that, personal opinion. Only fascists censor personal opinion just because they don't like it.

Zuckerberg has announced Facebook and Instagram will quit using leftist fact-checkers and instead do community notes, like X.
