The trend in animation away from hyperrealism - Magical Realist - Nov 12, 2024

I think this is great! After seeing endless Pixar and Disney attempts at hyperrealism, I got bored with it. How many 3D rubbery toylike figures do we need? Now animation is going back to stylistic creativity and artistry.

"One of the most significant changes in recent years which can be considered the emergence of a new era of animation, is characterized by a departure from the hyper-realistic render style trend and a move towards a more stylized, fantasy-driven aesthetic. This new era has been kicked off by a series of groundbreaking projects, such as League of Legends music videos, the Arcane series, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. These films are part of a new trend that’s steering animation away from replicating the real world and into somewhere new."

Yeah. Cartoons and related animation fundamentally entail having an "illustrated" appearance and not looking real -- in being radically different from regular cinema. There are other AI-generated genres for pursuing the developing "life-like" goal, so it's pointless to be corrupting the nature of the other. To wit:
