Anybody Watching Olympics - Zinjanthropos - Aug 3, 2024 I stopped listening after couple days. I just find Canadian and American coverage way too woke. Don’t know who said it but whoever stated woke is more about feelings than facts, has nailed the definition. Canadas national broadcaster CBC is bombarding the viewer with wokeness IMO. Quote: About CBC/Radio-Canada I think that means we’re officially a multi culture state and CBC mandate is to strengthen that belief. No feelings will be hurt during a broadcast. Today I read they’re telling us to apologize to the two (biologically) male boxers beating up women. I’m officially a non watcher after that. Easier to just check results at end of day to see how actual games ended. RE: Anybody Watching Olympics - confused2 - Aug 3, 2024 Not really a watcher .. though I occasionally watch highlights. I was impressed by Simone Biles winning the girly athletics things at the age of 27 - most females are long past their best by that age. Generally watching children leaping around doesn't interest me .. I'd put a minimum age of 21 on grown up athletics. Edit .. XX is female and XY is male .. if you've got an XY wanting to be (for example) a female boxer you just have to say "Sorry mate, not allowed.". There's plenty of things they can do other than boxing with women .. none of which spring to mind right now but I'm sure they exist. RE: Anybody Watching Olympics - Syne - Aug 3, 2024 Nope, especially after that opening ceremony, it just follows that they'd have men beating up women. My interest was starting to wane by the time Simone Biles hit the floor. Heard she wasn’t that good but in true woke fashion there was no need to hurt her feelings, just let her win, the others will understand. Canadian women’s soccer made headlines by being caught cheating early, CBC had tough time with that one. Maybe that’s what you get when you hire a Brit as team coach….lol. CBC couldn’t put enough acronyms in their press releases of various organizations that may have contributed to the bad sportsmanship. CBC also fired an announcer when he alluded to women putting on lipstick before a date when waiting to interview them. Sorry I couldn’t link up to CBC story this morning telling us the two pretend female boxers required an apology from us, when I went to link to the article they wanted me to subscribe this time. The article blamed the boxers plight on bad faith actors, not sure how many actors one story needs…lol RE: Anybody Watching Olympics - C C - Aug 3, 2024 (Aug 3, 2024 12:33 PM)Zinjanthropos Wrote: I stopped listening after couple days. I sample hubby's athletic addictions during football season, and that's about it. Set aside the DEI aspect when it comes to hiring coaches, and some of the ceremonial propaganda, and sports from circa the 1950s-60s onward has usually been an exemplar of meritocracy.[1] (And coincidentally about the time the term was coined -- originally mockingly in Michael Young's book.) - - - footnote - - - [1] Biological guys competing in women's sports arguably excluded (might be the best, but only qualifying via artificial alteration). Note also that it might often be cisgender authorities that require trans-athletes to compete controversially, since some trans-athletes do not want to unfairly compete against born females. IOW, the cisgender authorities may be playing their own "morality benefits" card as virtue-posturing paladins for _X_ cause. RE: Anybody Watching Olympics - Yazata - Aug 4, 2024 I haven't watched. It's kind of sad, because I had been looking forward to watching it. But the opening ceremony and then the "trans" bullshit put me off. RE: Anybody Watching Olympics - Syne - Aug 4, 2024 Now the IOC and the boxer's father are claiming the boxer was "born and raised female" even though it refuses to do any DNA test. Many leftist articles are muddying the water with talk about some syndrome in which a person can be born with female organs but have XY chromosomes. Sorry if you and your folks think you're female, but if you're competing against women in a sport where you can kill or maim them (see women's volleyball player permanently crippled) safety of the women competitors requires more caution. Facts are the bio males have a distinct physical advantage over their female opponents and safety for these girls should be an issue. Throw those out because feelings matter more here. No matter how you look at it, the bio males feelings mean more than the females. Even Woke culture realizes that they must award the feelings most hurt and too bad for the other guy. Further humiliating the beaten women by having them apologize for hitting their opponents fists with their faces just seals the deal. It looks like if you lose in Woke culture that you must be thoroughly pulverized in all manners, physical and psychological. Continuing to boycott television coverage of the games in support of women’s sport. In a quasi-inverted way, this very roughly echoes the 1970s and 1980s, when East Germany doped its female athletes with testosterone and anabolic drugs, inducing male characteristics and physical advantages in them. The Olympics organization and left community at large rebuked, mocked and ridiculed the non-enhanced women who complained about it. https://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/news/dopings-darkest-hour-the-east-germans-and-the-1976-montreal-games/ EXCERPT: “It is really sad that it has taken this long before someone even thought about the people,” said Babashoff. As a member of the USA Women’s Olympic Swim Team, she was the most visible victim of the injustice during the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada. Babashoff was branded by the media as a poor sportsperson for her comments implying that the East German women were on growth hormones. Headlines called her “Surly Shirley”. Favored to win multiple gold medals, she came away with four silver and only one gold medal. According to Mark Schubert, her coach at the time, “She was the only one that had the guts to speak out back then. If anybody had the right to speak out, it was her because she was the one that was cheated out of Olympic gold medals.” If the record books were to remove all the East German performances for that Olympics, Babashoff would have been the toast of the town with 5 gold medals and one bronze. Instead, she got roasted. “She was abhorred by the media”, Coach Schubert concluded. The media branded Shirley and her teammates as Ugly Americans. Bob Ingram, in the September 1976 issue of Swimming World Magazine wrote: The American Women found themselves in the position of Ugly Americans, thanks to some comments from a few of the girls. Rather than congratulating the winners, specifically the DDR swimmers, as is customary in the true Olympic spirit of competition, a few of the American girls opted to cry sour grapes instead. “To be frank, I don’t think we should look like men.” “I wouldn’t want to walk around the neighborhood looking like a guy.” “That’s not the way God created us to be like that (looking like DDR Swimmers)” The American blasts even went so far as criticizing the low voices of some of the DDR girls. But as on DDR official said, “we came here to swim, not to sing.” They say that time has a way of mending all wounds, but this wound still needs healing. The 1976 USA Women’s Olympic Team was right to cry foul. The USA team set nine American records at those Olympic Games only to see every record eclipsed by an East German swimmer riding high in the water from a systematic state-orchestrated drug program that claimed titles in 10 out of 11 individual races. Race after race, the USA women were shocked and demoralized. Their only redemption was a chance to defeat the illegal East German medal machine with a showdown in the 400 freestyle relay. It's the oppression olympics oroboros, where the supposedly least oppressed majority males (the head) can suddenly become (eat the tail of) the most oppressed trans minority by simply identifying as a recently minted oppressed class. In the case of women actually getting injured, the oroboros serpent eating the tail is quite literal. It should be considered a hypocritical mockery of feminism and the intersectionality, but leftists are far too stupid to realize that. They'd rather continue to endanger actual women on the altar of their "morally superior" virtue-signalling. It's not the "most hurt" per se, but the most subjectively (imagined) oppressed, discriminated, or marginalized. |
