The Angry Astronaut (a well known YouTuber) is in England and happened to stumble upon Tom Baker, who played The Fourth Doctor from 1974 to 1981 in the Doctor Who TV series. (Many Doctor Who fans think he was the best Doctor.)
He's the oldest surviving Doctor actor, at 90 years old.

Now (looks good for 90) He still looks like his Doctor Who character, down to the hair, eccentric clothes and expression. Maybe his Doctor Who was just him being himself.

I grew up with Tom Baker's Doctor, but I have to admit, those older ones don't really hold up nowadays.
I really liked Matt Smith in the newer ones.

I liked Matt Smith too. He might be my favorite Doctor of all of them.
He had the advantage of better written episodes. I thought that some of his adventures with Clara and with Amy & Rory were really moving. He had the advantage of a bigger special effects budget too. And I thought that the mysterious River Song was great.

Absolutely. All the companions were great, stories with more heart, and the River Song/astronaut mystery.
One of the very few toys I own is a Matt Smith sonic screwdriver.
Probably my favorite too, but I haven't seen much of Eccelston or Tennant. I liked Capaldi in the beginning, but probably only because of Clara.

He finally looks old enough to resemble William Hartnell. Or rather, for the past 30 years he could have also played the first Doctor, if there had been a reboot.
Although DW was first introduced in the States when John Pertwee had the role, I'm doubtful that the character would ever have developed a major following without Tom Baker. It's also fortunate that he hung around for so many years. Defying that "Three seasons or less and I'm gone!" tradition of so many British actors.

I watched DW when Tom Baker played him. He will always be my favorite.
