Bill Maher's "We've passed the Rubicon" clip (X community) - C C - Apr 20, 2024 https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/bill-maher-weve-passed-the-rubicon-with-death-to-america-chants-on-us-soil/ar-BB1lK6wM EXCERPTS: Bill Maher slammed recent "Death to America" chants by protesters at an Islamic rally in Dearborn, Michigan, and said "we've passed the rubicon." The host of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" went viral after he posted a clip on Tuesday from his recent "Overtime" segment on YouTube in which he called out protestors at the International Al-Quds Day event -- a day that exists to remind the Islamic world of their opposition to Israel and the U.S. The chants of "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" began while the organizer, anti-Israel activist Takek Bazzi, was attacking the "rottenest" country he and the other protestors live in, as previously reported. "Now can I talk about American propaganda? Because there was a rally in Dearborn, Michigan -- it's a large Muslim population, [there were] chants of 'Death to America.' I feel like we've passed something here," Maher said. "The Left has gotten mad at me for many years for talking about Islam," he added. "I try not to do it too much because I know it makes them go crazy, and I've made my point. But it needs to be talked about now, when you start chanting 'Death to America' in America." [...] Maher then highlighted a separate portion from Bazzi's inflammatory speech, where Bazzi referred to the United States as "one of the rottenest countries that has ever existed on this Earth. "It’s not just ‘genocide Joe’ that has to go," Bazzi told the crowd, "it's the entire system that has to go." [...] Maher recently made headlines when he warned that Canada was a “cautionary tale” for those Americans pushing “extreme wokeness.” [...] “And the moral of that tale is, ‘Yes, you can move too far Left, and when you do, you wind up pushing the people in the middle to the right,’” he added. “At its worst, Canada is what American voters think happens when there’s no one putting a check on extreme wokeness.” “And this is why people vote for [former President Donald] Trump,” Maher continued. “They say in politics, liberals are the gas pedal and conservatives are the brakes. And I’m generally with the gas pedal. But not if we’re driving off a cliff.” RE: Bill Maher's "We've passed the Rubicon" clip (X community) - Zinjanthropos - Apr 20, 2024 You don’t have to be woke or pretend to be woke in the voting booth. From personal experience I think Canucks see our leader, Justin Trudeau, the same way Maher does. I’m going to predict that in the next federal election we will vote in Pierre Poilievre, a guy not many know about and someone who has never had a real job in his life, as far as anyone knows. I don’t think he’s as smart as Trudeau and I can’t even be sure he’ll be less woke than Justin. Just a fresh face and not knowing if he’s woke is better than knowing he is. It’s a gamble. Now as far as the USA is concerned, it’s hard to believe Muslims need a day to remind themselves of how much they hate Israel and America. To preach this in America is blatant sedition in my mind. Two choices for Bazzi, one is instant deportation and the other isn’t a prison term. Funny how Maher thinks we’re worse than America and we think the opposite. RE: Bill Maher's "We've passed the Rubicon" clip (X community) - Magical Realist - Apr 27, 2024 I have a niece who would flood my Facebook news feed with report after report about the atrocities in Gaza everyday. She said they are never going to stop talking about it. She is also a very militant atheist and participates in an online podcast about that. She's even changed her name to a boy's name. My sister thinks she might be mentally ill. I had to unfriend her. I don't do extreme wokeness. And I hate politics now. I just have more interesting things to attend to. That's the thing about today. We never know when behavior and identity is really originating immanently from a person's own nature, or from the political and cultural fads they have taken up. Even youth is no longer a pure indicator, since smartphones provide children at an early age with exposure to the world of adult memes, obsessions, and concerns. Secular society has solidly found its replacements for long-lost religious zealotry and the affected and eccentric pretensions of bygone social classes. |
