If I came across a two-dimensional universe, I don't know that my matter could even interact with its version. Or that there would be anything like photons leaving it that would allow me to view it and its contents.

But if the higher dimension had something to do with making the lesser domain possible (rather the latter being wholly independent), then I suppose transactions of some could occur between the two.

In the 19th-century it became a pretty popular way of explaining paranormal affairs. Then the attention shifted to treating "time" as a 4D construct (years before Minkowski space and Einstein's GR). And the former preoccupation seems to have faded in popularity, though not totally absent.

Yeah..It occurred to me what a light wave or an eye or an atom even looks like in 4D space. Would vision as we know it even happen? Vision perhaps as a sort of hypervision of dimensionally-transcending omnipresent awareness..

Consider we exist in three dimensional bodies (with a forth sometimes referencing time) and the output of the computation of our brains technically wouldn't be bound by dimensions. (You might be able to think of a peanut or an elephant and both could be imagined within the confines of your brain even though they are both different sizes. Although balancing a peanut on an elephant is far simpler than balancing an elephant on a peanut.)

So while being 3d we don't think in 3d (we likely think in XYd or polynominals.)
