Ex-intel official: UFO reverse-engineering project should be made public - C C - Jun 3, 2023

Sounds like similar Roswell/Area-51 crank claims outputted for decades, just with an ex DASoD now recycling it in the current gov/NASA destigmatization climate.

EXCERPT: Christopher Mellon, a former deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Intelligence who specializes in UFOs, wrote in a Politico opinion piece published Saturday that he has received reports that the government has engaged in a "reverse engineering project" involving UFOs. He urged the government to make any records public, though these reports could not be independently verified by Newsweek.

Mellon wrote that he has referred four witnesses to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) who claimed to have knowledge about a secret government program "involving the analysis and exploitation of materials recovered from off-world craft," and that other sources have contacted him about an "alleged secret U.S. government reverse engineering program

He gave a number of reasons why he believed any information about these alleged projects should be made public. Mellon said the American have "have a right to know the truth" about whether the government has reverse engineered UFO projects and that people "can handle" any information about extraterrestrial craft.

Disclosure of such information could also help global leaders "develop an effective deterrent" against an attack, he wrote, noting that there are no signals of "aggression."

Mellon also explained several scientific benefits to disclosing any information... (MORE - missing details)

I'm not sure what post I'm responding to .. I'll stand by what follows even if the wrong thread.
My take on this is that the laws of physics as we know them isn't complete. I take an eye witness report from the 1950s as fair and true. My best (probably bad) guess is that there are projections into our spacetime from outside. Given that they appear to be locked to Earth's inertial frame I'd guess they don't originate from far away. Guiding a projection from even (say) 4 light years away would be tricky (unless the whole of our physics is simply 'wrong'). So far there doesn't seem to be any malice involved - so the motive is mischief, education or just plain 'alien'.

Relics from non-human spacecraft: A scientist's perspective
https://thedebrief.org/relics-from-non-human-spacecraft-a-scientists-perspective/

EXCERPTS (Avi Loeb): . . . Today, a report by whistleblower David Grusch was published by The Debrief, written by the highly reputable journalists Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal. Grusch served as a representative to the UAP Task Force and co-lead for UAP analysis.Grusch says recoveries of extraterrestrial objects of non-human origin have been ongoing for decades by the US Government, allies, and defense contractors.

Jonathan Grey, an intelligence officer specializing in UAP analysis at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, said that “a vast array of our most sophisticated sensors, including space-based platforms, have been utilized by different agencies, typically in triplicate, to observe and accurately identify the out-of-this-world nature, performance, and design of these anomalous machines, which are then determined not to be of earthly origin.”

[...] Nevertheless, as a scientist who is guided by evidence I must bring up a cautionary remark: there are no scientific details in this report. I can only assess the significance of open data or materials to which I have direct access.

[...] As much as eyewitness testimonies on the existence of classified evidence are intriguing, we can make progress in our scientific knowledge only by having direct access to the primary sources of materials or data without relying on hearsay. Eyewitness testimonies have implications in the court of law but are not sufficient for corroborating scientific statements.

Therefore, as much as Grusch’s report is intriguing, it does not carry credible scientific evidence irrespective of the comments about Grusch’s reliability. What we wish to see as scientists is the actual materials or data collected by the government. Without access to the evidence, we cannot distinguish Grusch’s report from a hypothetical story which was frabricated by a secret branch of government that is developing unusual technological capabilities while assigning them to an extraterrestrial origin... Another UFO Whistleblower
https://theness.com/neurologicablog/index.php/another-ufo-whistleblower/

EXCERPT: . . . We can make up reasons to explain each individual piece of this puzzle, but it’s all special pleading. It seems contrived to create a situation in which we have been spied on by aliens for decades, who are keeping their presence mostly secret, but not really, and crash all the time. Meanwhile multiple world governments are secretly examining their crashed craft and pilots, keeping it secret even from themselves, but not, I guess, from each other, and from the public – for decades.

And we are to believe all this from a guy who has not even seen any actual physical evidence, or even a single photograph of actual alien stuff.

Now of course, I could be wrong. There could be a deeper story going on here, and I might be missing one or more critical pieces of information that will snap everything into place. But I seriously doubt it. The far simpler explanation is that Grusch is simply wrong, that he is extrapolating too freely from what information he has, filling in apparent gaps, and making inferential leaps not justified by the actual evidence. Meanwhile the Pentagon and NASA both say they are not aware of any such program, and they are not aware of any evidence that points to aliens.

In the end I predict this will all turn out to be just another UFO nothingburger. But I would be happy to be proven wrong – just make public with some actual evidence... (MORE - missing details)

I'm kinda skeptical (I know, Eeew right? Shut up JamesR) that they have recovered any alien vehicles.

My reason for saying that is that no (publicly known) Earthly aircraft shows any sign of reverse engineered super-advanced technologies. All of the advanced developments on (publicly known) aircraft (powerplant, aerodynamics, control, stealth) all appear to be the result of decades of terrestrial aeronautical engineering. All of our advancements have histories. We just don't see the kind of 'quantum leaps' seemingly from out of nowhere that one would expect from reverse engineered extraterrestrial tech.

Of course, it's possible that we (and other countries) have super-secret super-advanced aircraft and spacecraft. There may already be Moon bases and outposts in the asteroid belt. But I doubt it very much. Given how leaky the US government is, it would have leaked out long before now.

For what it's worth Elon (reputed to be an alien) says he's heard nothing about such things. (Exactly what an alien would say.) But the owner of SpaceX probably would have heard, if it was true.

Yeah...we're just not seeing the kind of breakthroughs that an alien technology would be capable of. In the very least some sort of electromagnetically-induced? anti-gravity capability that we see so often with ufos.
