INTRO: Following the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the state of Ohio banned abortions after six weeks, or 42 days, of pregnancy. Now, researchers from The Ohio State University find that prior to this new law, roughly nine in 10 Ohioans seeking abortion care did so after the sixth week of their pregnancy.

Study authors also report one in four Ohio abortion patients didn’t even know they were pregnant until after six weeks had passed. Even among those who did know prior to the six-week mark, 86 percent still had their abortions after 42 days or longer. INTRO: An over-the-counter birth control pill could soon be available on shop shelves in the US if it gets the thumbs up from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Perrigo company has submitted its application to FDA asking for approval to sell the first-ever over-the-counter birth control pill available in the country.

Known as Opill, the drug is a daily birth control pill (also known as a mini pill or non-estrogen pill) that contains only progestin, a form of the progesterone hormone that plays a role in the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. It works by thickening mucus in the cervix, preventing sperm from reaching the egg.

The pill has been approved as a prescription drug in the US since 1973, but the makers want to switch their license to sell it as an over-the-counter drug without the need for a doctor’s sign-off... (MORE - details)

Great opportunity for these women to prove they can be responsible adults. If you really want to use abortion as birth control, you need to be responsible enough to take a few pregnancy tests after you know you've had sex. It's not rocket science.
