INTRO: Frequent pornography use is related to different sexual outcomes for young men and young women, according to new research published in the journal Psychological Medicine. The longitudinal study, one of the largest of its kind, indicates that a higher frequency of porn use is associated with a worse sex life among men. But the opposite appears to be the case among women.

“Research investigating the impact of pornography on young women’s and men’s sexuality is basically divided in two categories: (i) some scholars argue that porn use sets unattainable standards of sexual comparison and generates anxieties about one’s sexual performance, whereas (ii) other scholars argue that porn can be a source of sexual inspiration and could actually be used to become a better sexual partner,” explained study authors Nicolas Sommet and Jacques Berent, a lecturer at the University of Lausanne and a lecturer at the University of Geneva, respectively.

“Disentangling these two opposing views is difficult, mainly because many of the existing studies use small sample sizes and cross-sectional designs, which impedes our ability to draw reliable conclusions from the literature. We therefore became interested in clarifying the association between porn use and sexual performance in men and women, by conducting a large-scale study that followed tens of thousands of participants over the course of three years.”

The researchers conducted a three-wave longitudinal study that included yearly assessments of frequency of porn use, sexual self-competence, and sexual functioning... (MORE - details)

Women don't tend to be sexually creative, so women viewing porn can actually help their sexual performance by giving them new idea to try. For men, according to this study, viewing porn is likely only a significant problem for those already lacking sexual self-confidence...which would be more likely in the young men they surveyed.

How would you know something like that? Did you take a poll? How is such even measured?

Evolutionary sexual selection.

Some men may prefer a witty woman, but only if she's pretty as well, according to a new study. The research suggests that signs of wit and creativity in average-looking women may actually hurt their chances of getting a date even more than if they stayed completely silent. However, the opposite is true for men; women will often overlook their lack of good looks if they have other appealing traits such as humor and creativity.

The study, now published online in Royal Society Open Science, found that women may actually be punished for innate qualities that would be considered positives in men.

Just as in many species of animals, the males are the ones who develop elaborate and creative rituals to attract a mate.
I suppose first-hand comparison of male and female sexual behavior is outside of your experience. For most people, it's likely a given.

Not in humans. With humans it's the females who come up with the lures and temptations that attract men. And that requires alot of creativity. As usual your views on women are tainted by your resentment and incel misogyny. Probably didn't get breast fed enough. Pity.

No it doesn't. Women largely just follow trends in beauty and fashion...set by a very small percentage of creatives.
You're views of women, sexually, are devoid of any significant personal experience. But you're a human piece of shit who can't imagine a heterosexual guy having better incite than you, a gay man. If anything, not being breast fed likely contributed to you being gay, and you can't dislike women more, as a man, than not wanting to have anything sexual to do with them. So quit projecting.

And before you whine about me insulting you, as usual, you started it dimwit.

I looked back over the thread and didn't see any post where MR insulted Syne.
I suspect females do some things purely for fun - possibly more so than men - so there's no point in looking for a serious meaning in something that isn't seriously intended.
This probably says more about me than 'women' but I have to admit they were generally sometimes often more 'inspirational' than me -occasionally to quite an alarming extent.

Fair comment isn't an insult.

That's called an obvious and blatant bias at work. Too bad you can't recognize objective insults when they happen to align with your own subjective beliefs.

But do tell how that Medical Daily source I cited to support what I said is "resentment and incel misogyny." Is it everything on that site, or just anything I reference (via guilt by association)?
