Music performed by small bands and ensembles, duos, solo artists (minimalist hobbies) - C C - Apr 8, 2022 This thread is a "sort of" continuation of another one: Latest & older solo guitar performances (DIY one person "band" thread) But expanded beyond solo presentation and the restriction to guitar, as well as being vastly more amenable to vocals (i.e., minus a heavy lean on instrumental work). Preferably with an emphasis on "live" or cruder recorded performances (an audience is not required) as opposed to dense studio products with layers and layers of added tracks that elaborately prettify a song or composition for consumption on the popular market. Obviously, music of most categories these days isn't going to be "raw" and unadorned -- it will be modified, enhanced, groomed, and amplified by electronic equipment to some degree or another. So the "minimalism" here has more to do with simplicity in the number of performers and instruments -- and fewer tracks of unseen recorded music & singing overlaid -- than in a primitive audio experience completely devoid of technological transformation. Documentary & commemoration oriented videos of performers and composers/songwriters can be contributed as well. One of the best bluegrass/folk flatpickers of all time. Norman Blake: "Randall Collins" ... https://youtu.be/MVB1kQHFqps Lots of old videos on youtube of Norman Blake performing with his wife, Tony Rice, Doc Watson, James Bryan, and the rest. But the sound on many is often too low. Somebody needs to remaster them. At least this one is loud. Most will be familiar with Flat and Scruggs popularizing it in the late 1950s and the Carter Family well before that. All the effects, drums, notes and chords are flying and jumping around, eventually creating an endless kaleidoscope of sounds, and it seems like it’s gonna last forever. And just when you start thinking about that, it all gets back to exactly where it started and slowly fades into silence."
