August the month of good omens - Magical Realist - Jul 26, 2015

Well we're reaching the 2/3's point of an unusually hot and dry summer, with August bearing down on us like a lion on the hunt. But August can mean good things too I found out. Etymologically "August" derives from the
"1660s, from Latin augustus "venerable, majestic, magnificent, noble," probably originally "consecrated by the augurs, with favorable auguries" (see augur (n.)); or else "that which is increased" (see augment)." "Auguries" were signs or omens of the future, probably in keeping with rituals to ensure the augmenting of the crops by the summer sun. We can take this month as a time for portentous providence---of a universe in the mood to energize and feed with it's own exuberance of light and power. The solar beast in his prime majesty, filling the earth with the livegiving potential to feed it's creatures and ensure a bountiful harvest. A time for cultivating and nurturing the animating powercore within us.
