Everyone is questioning why there was no time delay during his thumbs up. I tried to find the link to the full video to see if it was taken out of context…to see if another earlier question was asked, but to no avail. I tried ChatGPT 5, but it just kept giving me the wrong videos and then finally admitted that it could find it.
It does look a little funny to me, especially with the exaggerated thumbs up when asked a second time. Any ideas?

Latency (Signal Delay)
Because of the vast distance between the Earth and the Moon (over 250,000 miles during this mission), there was a natural physics-based delay.

Speed of Light: Signals take roughly 1.3 seconds to travel each way.
Processing: Public livestreams had additional delays of several seconds to minutes due to data compression and digital processing.

So between Artemis and mission control, the latency is negligible.

Even if some of the streaming did show noticeable delays at other times (for one reason or another), Reid is known for gesturing a lot with his hands, so his first thumbs-up may have been an automatic response to the announcement of the fan speed being remedied. Which happened to coincidentally match the completion of the actual thumbs-up request (if there indeed was a two-second or more delay due to coded transmission deciphering, etc).

Yeah, there's about a 2 second delay after the announcement of the fan speed. That makes sense. Thanks, C C!
Victor Glover returning to his neighborhood, in Friendswood Texas I believe (between Houston and Galveston).

Reid Wiseman, commander of Artemis II, just posted this video taken by the Navy recovery team, showing the Orion capsule hatch being opened and the recovery people greeting the four Astros.

More photos of Hilt Boling, the Moon Kid. The woman taking the selfie is his mom. And some NASA guy is in the pictures too. Big Grin
