So, in other words, is he basically saying that he finds much of the anti-racism sentiment in the US, to be virtue signaling?
I don't think this diminishes the evil of racism one bit. Two things can be harmful without affecting each other. Two extremes on a spectrum.

John McWhorter definitely stresses in the video, that racism is "bad", but the question becomes if one is anti-racist (or simply thinks he/she is), is that nearly as harmful as being racist? I'd say no, it's not. But, if it's merely virtue signaling (you're just following the herd because you want to look like you care about minorities, for example) is there harm in that?
Yeah, he clearly said anti-racism being bad doesn't make racism any better. It's just one harm stacked on top of another.

Anti-racism can be worse simply because it's much more prevalent and it's convincing generations of blacks that they have no success stories, have no responsibility (as a culture, community, or individual) for black on black murder rates and black crime rates in general, and that black success depends on some white reformation.
This seems like it might fit here.
While I understand the premise, our culture sees anti-racism as always a positive thing, with no downside. I'd have to agree, but see the points of the video. These types of conversations never stand a chance in the mainstream media networks, though. Since money, advertising, etc drives the ratings, it is hard to break the narratives. (all narratives)
That's the point. People often use seemingly positive things to do harm. Slavery and forced sterilization were "for their own good".

If you don't see the downsides of Democrat policies, you just don't want to.
Many years ago (about 50) I was watching a program called "Daktari" about a white couple in Africa on a game reserve - the park ranger was black. As a result of some comment my father left the room and my mother kind'a leaned over and said "Your father doesn't like black people.". I didn't get a chance to discuss this point because he died soon afterwards. Just like to make clear I didn't kill him in case you were thinking the two events might be related.
