Buss driver appears to be in an arguement witha passenger who then hits him on the head with her cell phone while they are shouting at each other
he swings back at her while they continue to argue and she then attempts to strike him on the top of his head with her cell phone again, just after which he turns the wheel sharply steering the buss accross incoming traffic, over 2 opposing lanes into the path of an oncoming car and straight off the side of the bridge


i am wondering if they were a couple and this might be murder suicide, or if he stole the buss and the women knew he was not the driver.

Do bus drivers in China wear uniforms? Looks like he's wearing an ordinary suit.

The way I heard it, nobody is claiming that he'd hijacked the bus, so he seems to have really been the driver. The woman was mad because she said he'd missed her stop. So she started shrieking at him and hitting him in the head with her cell phone. He tried to shove her away and seems to have lost control of the bus. I doubt if he drove off the bridge deliberately.

It looks like everyone on the bus, a dozen or so people, were all killed.

Yeah. If you play the video in slow-mo, you can actually see the location of the bus through the windows. He takes his eyes off the road to defend himself and it looks like he didn't have time to correct it.

Sad.

The explanation that the Chinese government is dispensing would presumably have to be derived from the footage having an audio track (vocal engagement between driver and passenger) that's not available in the article's video clip. Suicide could be ruled-out regardless, though.

It's interesting that before the Gov stepped in, the female driver of the car which collided with the bus was blamed for the crash. With misogynist rants ensuing in social media against women drivers in general.

So much for the culture basking in Mao's communist political theory for some decades of the 20th-century[*]. The traditional mindset elements could have returned via the invigorated emphasis on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics after he went belly-up. As if both genders posturing as comrade equals in that drab Mao clothing of countless, idealized propaganda posters of the times ever meant anything in terms of lived facts. (Side detour into history here, with regards to the western Left honoring a butcher of millions: "In the 1960s and 1970s the Mao suit became fashionable among Western European, Australian, and New Zealander socialists and intellectuals.
