It's not hard to see how a really creative director/writer can elevate a Marvel/DC comic story to the level of a surreal masterpiece. Witness Noah Hawley's "Legion" series on FX. It's just a shame that we didn't get to see that happen as much as we liked with directors/writers like Tim Burton, Guillermo De Toro, Neil Gaiman, David Fincher, and Darren Aronofsky.
