No..not from 2:30 AM to 4 AM in the morning repeatedly over the same area over several months. No pilots would be doing that shit. Ever.

And you're just plain wrong. Pilots don't repeatedly break the sound barrier over populated areas at 2 in the morning. That's a stupid explanation. And then there's this intriguing detail:

"Ficco said two of his officers have heard the unidentified noise, and one of them also saw a flash of light.

"There was a flash of light and maybe several seconds before he heard the sound, and then the other officer who was further away heard the sound later than he did," the police chief told WPVI. "They both thought it was coming from different directions."

My first thought was sonic booms too. Military pilots aren't supposed to be flying supersonic over populated areas, but they might be doing it occasionally anyway.

Lightening might be another explanation. If some people reported a flash of light associated with the boom, that might be it.
