They've been around for years if not decades. Round design is common. Why local building codes in those regions and insurance companies haven't started mandating them in order for new homes to be approved seems to be just another part of the baffling insanity that permits people to build in river / creek flood zones. Although there's: "Oh, they're so ugly. Bad invite for the wealthy to move here, turn-off for vacationers and tourists."
