Amazing. I wonder what a rainbow sounds like?

I would like to invent a device that could translate music into ever morphing colorscapes. Not just a psychedelic kaleidoscope, but each instrument and tone related to a particular shade and hue. Then say when you listen to a particular symphony, your eyes learn to associate these color patterns to the music itself. Would you then SEE those colors in your mind when you listen to the symphony? Would you HEAR that music in your head when you see those colors?
