Chicken wings....once only considered scraps or suitable for soup became popular quite by accident according to some sources:

I was checking the prices of our frozen varieties of chicken wings today, hence the idea for this thread. So to start, do you chicken pluckers eat the wings? Do you cook from scratch (pun intended) or buy them prepared and cook them at home. Maybe you go to a restaurant or bar and see if you can scorch your tonsils with hot wings?

So 'fess up whether you are of fowl or vegan persuasion.

I'm just glad they originated in a declining metropolis of NY with a name like that instead of at Pig, KY.

I've finally sworn them off (except when someone else is buying or serving).

My present rant related to prepared frozen chicken wings is that almost all of them include a packet of sauce which displaces the equivalent of 4 wings which means you are paying far more than you should for the protein component. Most of the sauces are predominantly water, sugar with a few spices and thickener and are nothing to write home about so an effective way for the producer to increase their profit margin by adding nothing of real value. Bah, humbug!

The plain salt and pepper wings are your best bet and you can purchase or make the sauce of your choice while enjoying an extra serving of meaty wings.

That would be irritating. The DIY approach to chicken parts is still there, but only via having to pay extra for a sauce that's going to be discarded or at least isn't up to personal preference.

Another interesting twist is that some clever marketers have actually divided the wing and advertise them as 'Flats' or 'Drummettes', thereby allowing the customer to select for their personal preference.

Then they sell 'boneless wings' which are not wings at all, simply small chunks of breast meat that are prepared in the same manner and general shape of wings. I'm not sure if there any rules in this game, lol, as to what actually constitutes a 'wing'.

Sushi or chicken wings it really doesn't matter as long as she holds still when I try to grab a wing or sushi!
