Excellent analysis of a phenomenon I like to call the media's "shark attack effect." It's the difference between hype and real news. And yes, we've all been suckers for it at one time or another. This is because evolution has always favored overreacting over underreacting. One just makes you look foolish. The other can get you killed. So it's all just part of being human.

That's one of those stories that makes me go, meh... wait and see if it develops further. Otherwise, just another conspiracy theory. I have no idea why anyone would have an emotional reaction to it.
