MMIWG and 2SLGBTQI+ have actually been around awhile as two separate acronyms, but the merger seems recent.

Canadian acronym sparks online frenzy

EXCERPT: Canadian politician Leah Gazan, member of the New Democratic Party [socialist] who serves as the Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Center, recently spoke about Canada’s budget cuts and condemned the budget for cutting $7 billion from Indigenous Services Canada and Crown-Indigenous relations.
MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ is an acronym used primarily in Canada. Its purpose is to name and acknowledge a broad group of people affected by systemic violence—especially within Indigenous communities.
The acronym stands for: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit (a term that is used by some First Nations to describe people who embody both masculine and feminine spirits), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual people.
Missing and murdered indigenous women and girls are a significant and well-documented issue in Canada. The full acronym has been used for years in government, advocacy, and community contexts to emphasize intersectionality. It is intentionally lengthy in order to name everyone who has historically been left out of national conversations about violence, justice, and safety.

VIDEO INTRO:
A new LGBTQ acronym just dropped - it’s MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+. The MMIWG stands for "Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls". (They now know what a woman is!)
But I don't really see what being a murdered woman has to do with sexuality.
Are murdered indigenous women going to get their own float at Pride? A truck covered with eskimo corpses? That's going to kill the vibe a bit. And what's it got to do with men in leather harnesses dancing to Kylie Minogue?
The truth is, of course, that there's no genocide against indigenous women in Canada. In 2023, 50 indigenous women were murdered, not 50 million, 50. It wasn't done as part of an industrial-scale targeted extermination by the government. Most of those women died at the hands of their partners, ex-partners, or family. So they were killed by other indigenous people.
But there is a genocide being perpetrated by the state in Canada. In a month or two, Canada will hit the watermark of 100,000 medically assisted deaths. The vast majority of which - 96% - are white. So there's your ethnic genocide.
Many of these deaths aren't people at the end of their lives or suffering from an awful terminal disease. The government has exterminated people like Kiano Vafaeian, a 26-year-old who was blind in one eye and suffering from diabetes and depression. A young man with manageable conditions.
