I knew it was there. The fear of throwing away their high-paying and prestigious careers over a widely ridiculed phenomenon that has yet to be identified or clearly defined. At least she is shining a credible spotlight on the subject. I take it as a good sign that things are turning around. The aliens or whoever they are are making it harder and harder to ignore them with every passing year now. And courageous whistleblowers are taking the Pentagon to task. As Bill Maher said, it's the skeptics who are the conspiracy theorists now. Get with the program everybody!

Sabine is right.
There are still lots of
anomalous phenomena today that seem almost Fortean.
See this earlier Scivillage thread about the transient astronomical phenomena that Sabine mentions, with links to some of the original papers

which includes this...
Quote:Old, digitized astronomical images taken before the human spacefaring age offer a rare glimpse of the sky before the era of artificial satellites. In this paper, we present the first optical searches for artificial objects with high specular reflections near the Earth...
As in previous cases (Villarroel et al. 2021, Solano et al. 2023), no known astrophysical or instrumental explanations fully account for these events. We explore remaining possibilities, including fast reflections from highly reflective objects in geosynchronous orbit, or emissions from artificial sources high above Earth's atmosphere. Notably, the \sim3.9\sigma candidate coincides in time with the Washington D.C. 1952 UFO flyover, and another (a \sim2.0\sigma candidate) falls within a day of the peak of the 1954 UFO wave (Figuet 1980)
