A tad reminiscent of the death of Ron Ely's wife, though there the son was afflicted with neurodegenerative disease rather than drug addiction.

Rob Reiner’s son arrested on suspicion of homicide, records show
https://www.latimes.com/california/story...rob-reiner

EXCERPTS: Rob Reiner’s son Nick was booked into the Los Angeles County jail on suspicion of murder, records show, hours after the Hollywood legend and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home Sunday.

Jail records provide few details but say Nick Reiner was held on $4 million bail. The records do not give any details about the cause for the arrest but said he was taken into custody at 9:15 p.m. Sunday and booked at 5:04 a.m.

Nick Reiner cycled in and out of rehab centers and experienced bouts of homelessness as a teenager. He recounted his struggles in interviews.

He had gotten clean by 2015, when he worked with his father on “Hey Charlie,” a semi-autobiographical film about addiction and recovery. Rob Reiner directed and Nick co-wrote the film about a successful actor with political ambitions and a son addicted to drugs.

At the time of the premiere, The Times reported that Rob Reiner and his wife at their worst moments “wondered if there was an end in sight, and whether it would be the tragic one that a voice in the back of their heads kept telling them was coming.”

Rob Reiner said the filming brought up tough memories. “It was very, very hard going through it the first time, with these painful and difficult highs and lows,” he said. “And then making the movie dredged it all up again.”

But he said the process of making the movie was therapeutic, allowing them to work through a lot of past trauma and develop a closer relationship.

[...] Law enforcement sources told The Times that there was no sign of forced entry into the home. The source also said the Reiners had injuries consistent with being stabbed... (MORE - missing details)

EDIT (video replaced): Brown University shooting recap: See timeline as shooter still at large
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/crim...772926007/

INTRO: On Sunday night, the "person of interest" originally detained was released by authorities, with Attorney General Peter Neronha saying that the "evidence now points in a different direction."

"We have a murderer out there, frankly," Neronha said.

Two Brown students were killed in the shooting, Ella Cook and . Cook began attending Brown in 2024, according to her LinkedIn page, and was the vice president of the Brown Republicans.

Nine people were injured, including eight Brown students. On Sunday, Brown University President Christina Paxson said that seven of the students are in critical but stable condition but one remains in critical condition.

Developments in the mass shooting Saturday have unfolded rapidly over the past couple days. Here is a timeline of key moments... (MORE - details)

Manhunt for Brown University shooter enters third day as person of interest released

That's along the storyline that I originally posted, but then came across the video claiming in the feed that it was only released 18 minutes beforehand (more recent yet). In reality, the video was yesterday.
But on the flip side, plenty of people were initially speculating that Reiner might have been stabbed by a MAGA enthusiast. "Premature conclusion" mindsets flourish along the whole spectrum.

MAGA claims Brown shooter targeted Republicans. Here’s the truth.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/maga...31275.html

EXCERPTS: MAGA Republicans are already pushing conspiracy theories about the shooting at Brown University over the weekend, claiming that one of the victims was targeted for her conservative beliefs.

Sophomore student Ella Cook was one of the two people killed Saturday when a shooter opened fire during a review session for an economics exam. The gunman has not yet been taken into custody or identified, but the victims have—and apparently that’s all MAGA thought they needed to crack the case.

Some Republicans began to claim that Cook, who served as vice president of the Brown chapter of College Republicans of America, was targeted for her politics. Of course, none of them bothered to mention Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek student who was studying neuroscience who was also killed Saturday, or the eight others who were injured.

William Branson Donahue, founder and chairman of the College Republicans, claimed to have been “told” that Cook was “allegedly targeted for her conservative beliefs, hunted, and killed in cold blood.”

[...] His follow-up post did not receive nearly as much attention as his initial one. At time of publishing, his conspiracy post had received 833 comments, 3,500 reposts, and 13,000 likes. His tepid attempt to walk it back had just 116 comments, 48 reposts, and 644 likes.

It seems clear Donahue did not wait for the official police report before lighting a flare to his fellow conservatives.

[...] For now, it seems that the only substantive similarity between this shooting and the assassination of Charlie Kirk, besides that they both took place at universities, is just how quickly MAGA has moved to exploit violence for its own political purposes... (MORE - missing details)
So tragic. What can lead a son to do such a thing to his own elderly parents? Drugs?

What we know about Nick Reiner
https://www.latimes.com/california/story...with-world

EXCERPT: During the interview, Rob said he regretted valuing the advice of counselors over the voice of his son.

“When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen,” he said. “We were desperate, and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.”

Michele added: “We were so influenced by these people. They would tell us he’s a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.”

Nick talked about the many different rehab centers and programs he tried without success. In 2016, he told People magazine that he lived on the streets because he refused to go to the rehab facilities his parents recommended.

That was when he was still a teenager though, so it doesn't necessarily mean he was currently under the influence of drugs or that this patricide slash matricide was triggered by related past events. Might even be a new developing mental condition. If he was immune to rehab treatment, then there might have been a deeper problem that was in incubation all along.

What's more likely is that the shooter was some sort of minority, regardless of motive or target.
That would explain why there's only one, fairly useless video of the hunted suspect released when there should be a ton more footage from the university.
But when the university president doesn't know why those students were there, six hours after the attack, maybe the university security surveillance was also neglected.
Manbaby politically exploits Rob Reiner's murder because he's a piece of shit:

"President Trump seized on the stabbing death of Rob Reiner and his wife to make a baseless attack on the Hollywood director less than a day after reports of his killing, suggesting that Mr. Reiner’s criticism of Mr. Trump may have led to his murder.

The president wrote on Truth Social on Monday that Mr. Reiner’s death was “reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.”

The Reiners’ 32-year-old son has been “booked for murder,” according to the Los Angeles police chief, Jim McDonnell. There was no indication from the authorities that the couple’s political beliefs had anything to do with their deaths.

Mr. Reiner was killed alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles.

Mr. Trump’s attack brought immediate outrage, even from some fellow Republicans."

When Kirk was shot and people said some stupidly cruel things, there was a lot of noise with Trump et al moaning about people until they apologised or quit their job.
So Trump says something stupidly cruel anyone, countering it it is suffering "Trump Derangement Syndrome"??? (Sounds like there needs to be a remake of the music score "Peaches"... but more like Instant Message Peaches... or "IMPeaches" for short.)
Do you understand the difference between celebrating murder and theorizing about motive?
What makes Reiner's well-known views on Trump sacrosanct?
