Johatsu---people who vanish from their lives and move somewhere else to start anew with a whole different identity. It's like getting reincarnated but without the inconvenience of having to die. I find this practice strangely attractive. I may have actually done it myself, moving to Portland Oregon once and becoming an anonymous loner..

At least it sounds like something they want to do, in contrast to the situations that Japan's Ice Age generation found themselves in. Some of those cyber-homeless spend their time in manga cafés and the tiny sleeping capsules of pod hotels.
