RELATED (scivillage): Zeihan: Why do Democrats keep losing ground?

Even if the traditional Democrat hegemony of NYC did have a plan to stop Mamdani, the rigid Blue voters of the city simply aren't going to vote for independents like Adams and the other ex-Democrat candidates who switched to that status after Mamdani's primary win. So it doesn't really matter that they're relying on faith, hoodoo spells, miracles (etc) instead of an intelligent strategy.

Make you wonder how bad things have to get before NYC elects another Giuliani or California another Schwarzenegger.

Strangely, Charlie Kirk wanted Curtis Sliwa to drop out of the race. Kirk lives in Arizona and has no birth or native connections to NYC, so his concern about Mamdani winning there may literally be neutrally principled. Since others might be overjoyed to see Mamdani become mayor, due to the hurt it does to the image of the Democratic Party.

Otherwise, I don't know what the deal is with Curtis Sliwa being a lost cause. The unarmed Guardian Angels weren't a vigilante group, and Koch relented and approved them eventually. I guess Sliwa is out of the picture because he's a conservative (despite rejecting populist Trump previously), and Giuliani's incremental fall from grace from 2016 onward maybe put such a bad taste in Democrat New Yorkers' mouths that they have no stomach for a Republican ever again. (Plus, even when they voted for Giuliani in the '90s it was surely because they regarded him as akin to a RINO, and Bloomberg of course was an undeniable faux Republican when he won in 2001.)
I doubt Sliwa has a chance, but I also doubt that his potential voters coalesce around Adams or Cuomo. More likely, they just sit it out.
The only purpose I see Sliwa having in the race it to perhaps show an increasing willingness to vote that far afield. But like I said, I'm not sure how high the NYC voter threshold is for their cities turning to crap.
