Doesn't the whole idea of natural selection suggest that life doesn't evolve randomly, "by chance"? It evolves so as to be better adapted to its environments and to its ecological niches.

His father was ostensibly a Muslim and according to some interpretations of Islamic law, a child born to a Muslim father is a Muslim by birth. And what's more, he spent a significant part of his youth growing up in Islamic countries, Indonesia particularly (where his mother had taken up living with another Muslim man, not his father).
