There's just something fundamentally surrealist about this. Perhaps it's the "uncanny valley" thing.

It's easy to see why the Screen Actors' Guild is scared to death and on strike.



And this is how the future was supposed to be!

The brain has been conjuring improvised dreams and hallucinations for millennia -- albeit sometimes poorly regulated ones.

By adding multiple, generative adversarial networks that reciprocally critique each other about the quality and consistency of the simulation they're producing, the computer version can ensure that observers of the future are experiencing a lawful environment. Even if nothing is persistently maintained beyond what is perceived, heard, felt, etc.

I remember one dream where I was deliberately running through a building of seemingly endless rooms, hoping to encounter a blank one that the brain never had a chance to generate detailed content for. Never happened. Each one was filled with elaborate furniture, business meetings, family gatherings, or parties with dozens of differing faces and clothes and noisy conversations, and so forth.
