Riots have been convulsing France for days. It isn't just Paris, but other French cities and towns too. The turmoil started in response to a move to raise the retirement age by two years, but now seem to be more general and unfocused anti-government riots. Part of the popular anger is due to how Macron enacted his retirement law changes, simply by decree without the required vote of Parliament. This is being denounced by the crowds as illegitimate and authoritarian.

This next one is big if it's accurate - it shows some rather bad-ass looking riot police supposedly going over and joining the anti-Macron protesters with the crowd applauding them.
