I have the Lazarus IDE compiler. I've written the code. Now I need to market and charge customers for the app. How do I do so? What do I need to proceed with this act?
I don't believe you've written any code. So your question is pointless.

I've only ever made money from programming by working for a company or university and being paid a salary for what I do.

Edit.. I haven't actually paid for any software since 1995 - nor would I be likely to do so in the future. Linux!

I appreciate your help confused. Its interesting that many have struggled to make money with their apps. I believe I have a truly original idea for an app. I visited this page: PayPal Checkout. According to this it seems I need a credit card. Can you tell me how the process works? Given the fact that I need a credit card in order to charge customers for my app, assuming I'm correct, does the credit card need to receive rather than give payments? And if so, does it need to be an "empty" card?
Seems you, me and the UK prime minister know nothing about credit cards. I suspect you have to be a fine upstanding citizen to get one unless you are laundering money - in which case banks will fall over themselves to give you a credit card - though that might be just UK banks.
Without looking at that paypal checkout setup I would assume it's a business model where they want to take a cut of the action up front. So rather than just waiting for *if* you manage to sell an app, they'd rather use your credit to get some money up front for the privilege of using their platform for selling an app (whether you sell something or not)

In the most cases of apps to my knowledge you are best starting small with a select group of people that use whatever it is you develop. They get to use it first, it's cheaper for them and it gives you a chance to make sure you bulletproof your code before you deal with a larger number of people. (which can turn very nasty if your code is exploitable etc)
