The visuals make it all seem relatively cheap and simple to achieve. With pro points of (relatively) small footprint and reuse/repurposing of existing fossil fuel power plants.
It certainly has a novel aspect - intense microwave boring to depths considerably deeper than conventional drills have managed.

In practice expect a raft of bad news 'glitches' that may or may not prove fatal. One or two such only hinted at in this Popular Mechanics piece:

Ha ha ha ha. The opening spiel almost word for word echo of that trumpeted for today's 'real deal'. I agree with a few commenters that the special effects were remarkably good for the time.
